We offer a wide variety of aggregate materials and landscape supplies to meet every need. Not sure what type of gravel or soil is best for your project? We’re happy to help you choose the right material and quantity. Below is an overview of the materials North Alabama Rock & Dirt provides. All materials are available for pickup or delivery to your location.
For driveways, walkways, drainage, and construction bases, our rock and gravel selection has you covered. These aggregates are durable and sourced from quality quarries, ensuring a solid foundation for your project. Common rock and gravel products we supply include:
8/10s: #8 comprises particles about ⅜ to ½ inch (common for concrete mixes), while #10 is very fine—screenings or stone dust used for paver bedding or block manufacturing.
Base: A tight mix of crushed stone—including fines—that compacts firmly and is ideal as a sub-base for roads, driveways, patios, and paths.
#78 Gravel: Crushed angular limestone product that is approximately 1/2 inch in size, though some sources note it can also be up to 3/4 inch. It features excellent compaction properties and is often used for driveways, pathways, concrete mixes, and as a base for pavers due to its good drainage and stability.
#57/#67 Gravel: A popular medium-size, clean gravel (about 3/4-inch in size). #57/#67 limestone gravel works well for driveways, drainage solutions, and general landscaping. It provides good compaction while still allowing drainage, which makes it useful under concrete slabs and for erosion control in swales. Also great for backfilling pipe ditches and concrete slabs.
#4 Gravel: A larger gravel (around 1–2 inches in size). #4 stone is often used for heavy drainage needs, erosion control, and as a base layer under more fine gravel for extra stability. It’s also useful for areas where water flow is a concern, as the larger stones won’t wash away easily.
#2 Stone: generally ranges from about 1½ to 2½ inches in diameter and is frequently used in stabilized construction entrances and stone reservoirs.
Rip Rap: Oversized chunks of rock (typically 4–8 inches or larger). Rip rap is used for erosion control on slopes, lake shores, creek banks, and anywhere you need to prevent soil erosion. These large, angular rocks lock together to form a barrier against running water. We supply quality rip rap that’s ideal for protecting culvert outlets, bridge embankments, and shoreline stabilization.
From filling in low spots to growing a healthy lawn, having the right soil matters. North Alabama Rock & Dirt supplies various types of dirt and topsoil for landscaping and construction uses. Here are the primary soil products we offer:
Red Dirt: An economical, earthy material used to fill holes, level ground, or build up an area’s elevation. Fill dirt is not topsoil – it’s usually subsoil with clay and small rock content, which means it’s not suitable for planting but is excellent for creating a stable base or raising the grade. Use fill dirt to fill in depressions, build up berms, or prep construction sites where organic soil isn’t needed. Our fill dirt is clean and free of large debris, perfect for backfilling and rough grading work.
Topsoil: Rich, screened topsoil that’s ideal for gardening and landscaping. Topsoil is the nutrient-rich upper layer of soil, full of organic matter that plants love. Our topsoil is great for starting a lawn, filling flower beds, or top-dressing your yard. Use it anywhere you’re planting grass, flowers, or vegetables. We take care to provide topsoil that is clean (minimal rocks/clumps) and fertile to give your plants the best chance to thrive.
