While our company name is new, our story actually began decades ago. We are a proud subsidiary of Grayson Carter & Son Contracting, Inc. (GCAS Contracting) – one of North Alabama’s leading civil construction companies. By leveraging the experience, resources, and values of our parent company, North Alabama Rock & Dirt is built on a strong foundation of expertise and trust.
GCAS Contracting (short for Grayson Carter & Son) has been a pillar of the North Alabama construction industry since 1995. That’s when our founder, Grayson Carter, started the business with just a single bulldozer (a 1987 Dresser TD15C) and a commitment to hard work. Through determination and a focus on doing things right, GCAS grew from those humble beginnings into a large civil construction firm known for building roads, developing sites, and moving earth all across the region. Over the past nearly 30 years, GCAS Contracting has earned a reputation for quality workmanship, integrity, and personal service. It remains a family-run business that treats customers like friends and always delivers on its promises. From clearing land and installing utilities to paving highways, GCAS has literally helped shape the landscape of North Alabama. That legacy of excellence and community commitment underpins everything we do at North Alabama Rock & Dirt.
Homeowners, landscapers, and small contractors needed a dependable local supplier for gravel, fill dirt, topsoil, and other materials. Rather than sending those customers to out-of-town suppliers or competitors, GCAS decided to expand its services by creating a dedicated materials division – and thus North Alabama Rock & Dirt was born. Our company was established as a subsidiary in order to focus 100% on aggregate sales and delivery, while GCAS continues to handle large-scale contracting projects. This synergy means our customers get the best of both worlds: a nimble, customer-focused supply company backed by the resources and knowledge of an established construction firm.
